New Media Atlanta

Randy Barnes completely surprised Todd and I today when he tweeted a link to a newly edited video of our Volume 5 edition of He Said, She Said.

You have to see this. Be sure to watch all the way through the closing credits!

Miriam Salpeter, me, Chris Brogan, and Stephanie Frost

Miriam Salpeter, me, Chris Brogan, and Stephanie Frost

Finally.

I met Chris Brogan.

!!!

And you know what?

He’s the real deal.

You know how sometimes people get all built up and then you meet them and see them speak and you’re all WTF.

I’m not saying that’s what I expected, but I have to tell you…the moment Chris got on stage and started speaking I was reeled in.

He’s direct, witty, engaging, and SMART.

Some of the key points that I took away from his presentation yesterday:

  • Always confront the things you’re afraid of head on… as he puts the backnoise up on screen behind him…
  • The problem w/negative: Negative doesn’t tell you how to fix it.
  • Social media for customer service is the Holy Grail.
  • Companies! Why social media? Because your competitors are.
  • Don’t collect business cards like it’s pokemon. You live or die by your database.
  • Give your ideas “handles” so they can then be carried forward by others.
  • How go get more Twitter followers [that matter]: listen, ask, reciprocate, comment, comment back.
  • Interns managing your social media? NO. You should have an $80,000 to $100,000+  person doing your social media. It’s that important as your repuation is on the line.
  • Are you known for connecting people to other people? Reciprocal karma.
  • Blogging is your foundation to everything you do online.
  • Get people to link to you site by creating meaningful content then convert into sales.

What was most impressive to me is that he not only hung out at the conference and talked to people all day long, he went to the after-party!

Chris Brogan is a class act and I really hope you get to meet him someday if you haven’t already.

Additional highlights of the day…

I got to spend time with some of my favorite people including Miriam Salpeter, Stephanie Frost, Marna Friedman, TarynP, Chad Rothschild, Robyn Cobb, Marisa Sharpe, Stone Payton, Todd Schnick, Jenny DeVaughn, Sandra Spiller, Bert Dumars, Shannon Russo, and Victoria Dunmire. I also met several very cool new people that I look forward to getting to know, including Jeff Turner.

I had a fun lunch at the historic Silver Skillet with Marisa, Miriam, Stone, and Todd.

After Chris spoke Stone, Todd and I headed over to the Fox Sports Grill at Atlantic Station to take a break and strategize on plans for their upcoming world tour.

After that we went to the after-party [which was really, really great!] at Ten Pin Alley and then a fun dinner with friends at Rosa Mexicano.

It was a fabulous day!

And for me, a great end to a not so great week.

And finally, Todd and I filmed Volume 5 of He Said, She Said! Watch for that in a separate post later today.

Yesterday we filmed Volume 5 at the New Media Atlanta | Social Media Business event at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.

It was Todd’s turn to ask the question which entered around reasons for attending social media events such as New Media Atlanta.

Oh and by the way because we are so transparent authentic crazy we didn’t edit these videos like we he normally would, so enjoy… ;-)

What do you get out of social media conferences and other such networking events…what do you think is the best reason to make the investment?

Whether or not you are attending New Media Atlanta this Friday you cannot miss the after-party! All of Atlanta is invited.

The party is immediately following the conference.  We’ll all head over around 5:00 pm.  We’ve got the whole place to ourselves until 7:00 pm and we can stay as long as we want.

You must have an event pass to get in or you could purchase a separate ticket to just the After Party.

However, I’ll let you in on a little secret…the cost is $10.00 at the door if you don’t have an event pass, but if you register online
it’s free with this code (cash bar with some sponsored drinks).

Click here for Directions from New Media Atlanta conference to Ten Pin Alley.

Also, don’t miss this video filmed by my completely awesome friend Todd Schnick welcoming Chris Brogan to Atlanta! (Yes, that’s me at the end with my dear friend Stone Payton.)

See you there.
