Today I took enough clothes, shoes, and linens to fill an entire closet to a HopeATL volunteer location outside of Atlanta and several people have asked me for information on the organization so I thought I’d provide it here.
From the website it looked as though the one I went to today is the closest if you are coming from inside the city:
County Line Baptist Church 770/942-0190
1814 N. County Line Rd. / Lithia Springs, GA
30122 9:00 am to 9:00 pm MON – FRI, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm SAT | September 28 – Oct. 7
* Accepting donations of clothing and food. Donations will be distributed to flood victims on Oct. 10.
Even so…I’m not going to lie. It was quite a hike. 35 miles each way. However…it could not have been more worth it!
I was incredibly moved when I arrived at the church to find so many volunteers…and so many donations that had already been made! Clothing lined the hallways and every room I walked past…and there was an entire room full of nothing but shoes. I literally got teary-eyed I was so overwhelmed and inspired.
I’m reluctant to say that because I don’t want to give the impression that they are still not in dire need of donations; anything from clothing and shoes to household items to tools and trucks to help with clean-up and reconstruction.
And, of course; money!
For more information on the desperate need for help and donations you can check out the organization’s brief video (if you are not moved by this you are sub-human.)
Please visit the HopeATL site for details on how you can volunteer, donate, and/or contribute to help provide relief and assistance for the flood victims of Atlanta. On Twitter you can search the hashtags #HopeATL and #ATLflood for additional information.
Additionally, I’m working with a group of friends including Chad Rothschild, Stephanie Frost, Erik Wolf, Taryn Pisaneschi, Todd Schnick, and The Fabulous Jenny DeVaughn to put together a festive holiday bash at the St. Regis Hotel in Buckhead with proceeds benefiting HopeATL.
Stay tuned for details and we hope you’ll be able to join us!
